i dont know if this is the right place to post this...but ill ask it anyways. im looking into the sLR scene. my 2 choices are nikon d50 6.1mp and the canon rebel xt 8.0mp both have the 18-55 kit lens. d50 is 699.00 and the canon is 749.99. i was wondering if its worth the 50 bucks more to get more megapixels. will i even notice the differenc ebetween these 2 cams?....reviews are pretty equal and say its up to the users preference. i want to know if its gonna be worth the xtra 50 bucks and why......thanks for the [H]elp

between those two brand new? The canon...simply because of the "L" lenses you have the option to buy. then again....see the PS.

the correct place to post this would be in the photography section under hobbies in genmay....but I'm not a mod so what am I gonna do?

PS. wait 18 days....Nikon is announcing a New 10.2 MP DSLR, so prices may drop.

oh yea, please...don't put your titles in all caps...

Yeah but hasn't there been threads on 6.1 = 35mm quality and all this 8mp - 10mp is just market hype that to see any real big difference you would have to move upto the pro 24mp cameras ? i think there was a thread on this in the forum that you mentioned that we speak in

My 2 cents i just got a D70s and I love it i can't comment on any other brand cause i've always loved Nikon

The difference between 6.1 and 8 is definitly noticble. I do a lot of digital photography, and many times I wish I had more resolution than my 6.3mpxl. That said, look around for prices.

I'm personally a Canon man, but Nikon has some great entry level DSLRs, like the D50.

Another thing to consider is how serious you're going to be. If you think you're going to get very serious and be upgrading to pro lenses and bodies (ie, investing thousands and thousands of dollars into the hobby), then stick with canon or nikon.

If you don't think you're going to be extremely serious, look at Pentax. They have some very nice DSLRs and a nice range of lenses. Mostly, however, the price is right

Pentax *ist DL, 6.1 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera with Pentax SMCP-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL is $449 AR

We got a Canon Rebel XT a few months ago and it's an awsome camera. We were tossed up between the Nikon and the Canon also, but in the end the Canon won. I think the Canon had a few options that the Nikon didn't, and for around the same money...I wanted the one with more options. At this time, I don't remember what they were, but It think if you google up Rebel XT review you'll find a few sites that compare the canon and nikon side by side.

A new nikon is coming, I'd wait, it is expected to be a d70 replacement at 10+ megapixels, 17days left for announcement as of now

everyone saying MPs matter....eat it, because my D1H(2.7MP) can produce huge prints (some up to 20"x30", but typically 11"x14") :p :p

In other words...it' all about the photographer...not the camera. Canon would be better here, but if your choices were between the D70 and the 350D (Rebel XT), then I would say the D70....

again..wait 17 more days for the Nikon announcement. see if its an announcement or a release, if its an announcement and your lucky, Canon and Nikon will drop prices right away, if not, you will have to wait for the release for them to drop prices.

I have the D50 and, love it. Im not going to get into the MP debate as it has been hassh and, rehashed over and, over. I personally dont see any great improvement in image quality unless it is a doubling myself. My D50 makes great prints a 6MP. A friend has a plotter and, made a 20x30 print for himself of one, of mine. I was surprised at how well it looked.

I have both a D50 and a XT... When it comes down to it, the body dosnt matter nearly as much as lens and your eye. Bother cameras setup with a 50mm f1.8 prime take nearly identical pictures. (I found less noise on the nikon at higher ISO)

The kit lens suck. there great when compared to everyhting on the P&S lineup, but there bottom of the barrel on the DSLR lineup. I am no pro, but I did lots of research before buying. I think your best bet if you want a "kit" -or one lens for all, is to buy a body only DSLR of choice (nikon is cheaper) and get a sigma or tamron 18-125mm f3.5 lens. Its a greaat great all around one for all lens. Both sigma and Tamron make there versions of the lens, and both a reall good quality. Also if more focal lenth is in your mind (more zoom) opt for the 18-200mm f3.5 form either company. Its pretty much identical quality shots with abotu 30% more range.

please note, that thease lens are made for DSLR cameras with a smaller APS-C size sensor. This means if you ever up to a full frame camera (35mm or a much better DSLR) this lens will not be a good idea to use. its something to think about. I bought mine because its a sub $350 lens so if I ever up to full frams, its not like im loseing a $1200 lens. (Ie. sell then lens with your camera if you plan on upgradeing to a full frome body)

I personally have both, and still cant decide witch one I like better... HAHAHA

maybe used, but some ideas going around hint that it could be a gap filler between the D70 and the D200, who knows though, the D70(s) has been around long enough, I'd say its time for a replacement.

I had the same choice many months ago, and the Canon won. I borrowed my friends D70s and it was okay, but I did not like the selection of lens. I love my XT, and am glad I went that way. Love my L lens....

is the OP even a member of genmay? can he still see his own thread? just curious....
