Finally upgrading my 7800gtx I bought when it was brand new. Getting a PNY GTS 250 today from newegg. This is what I was going to do. Uninstall the current nvidia drivers, turn the machine off take the old card out. Install the new card install the new drivers.
Would this beneficial or does it really matter? Should I just turn the machine off then install the new drivers instead?
Since this is a different generation card I figured I should do this.

...why god why are you getting a GTS 250? It's pretty much a rebranded 8800 / 9800 series card. The 4870s and 260s are so cheap anymore, it doesn't make sense to get anything less. Return it!

As for your plan with drivers, I'd probably go that route, yes. Not strictly necessary but it doesn't really introduce any further difficulties.

Because my current computer does not warrant getting a 260 or above atm. Hell, it doenst even really warrant getting a 250 since my mobo is not pcie 2.0 but oh well. Plus I can not find a decent 260 for the $120 I payed for the 1gig 250. Just dont feel like spending the money right now. When I build a new box then I will go higher and this one with become my spare.

There are HD 4770s and 4850s that are cheaper and most likely to perform much better than some GTS 250. PCI-E 2.0 is not that important...

For this computer I wanted to stick with nvidia right now. Anyways, that is not the point of this thread. Lets just say I have a G200 series card from here on in. All I wanted to know is since I am switching generation cards if it would be beneficial to completely remove all 7x series drivers before installing the g200 series. This is XP BTW. Going to pick up win7 soon, which will be a reformat anyway.

Ok, the wierdest thing is happening. I uninstalled the old drivers, took card out. Installed new card, brought up windows installed new drivers. For some reason my mouse g5 mouse is no longer working. Windows sees it but its just not working. The speed button is no longer changing the speed colors etc. I am baffled. I am actually typing this in windows without a mouse. Glad I took the time to learn how to use xp with nothing but a keyboard..
I have tried 2 different G5 mice and multiple usb slots and nothing. Anyone ever hear of things like this?

Off the top of my head I am forgetting. Its an antec HE550 I think. Never had any problems with it and the computer will actually see 2 mice connected at the same time but they just dont want to move.
