it bugs me that my system gives my first SATA drive the letter C

then gives my DVD and DVD-rw the letters D,E

finally it gives my other SATA drive the letter F .... i want this to be D .... is that possible ?
 
My guess is that you installed windows then partitioned the rest of the drive after you got everything up and running.

You can change the letters of the optical drives, no problem. Right-click My Computer > manage (or start > control panel > administrative > computer management > drive management); in the bottom right-hand pane, right-click the optical drive you want to change the letter on, select change drive letters and paths, change the letter to something out there (I like m and n), repeat for other drive, reboot.

If you are lucky, windows will move the drive letter down for you. If not, I think that you can change the drive letter of a NON-SYSTEM drive (i.e. your second partition) without too much problem by following the same method.

There is a catch to all of this. Any programs that are installed already that have a path that look for an optical drive on a particular letter, or have data on the second partition that the registry points to, will most likely be broken. You may have to reinstall a lot of stuff just to get things back to normal. Fair warning.
 
Yeah, you should be able to change through Disk Management. Just go into Control Panel and double click on Administrative Tools. Then double click on Computer Management. In the window that pops up there will be a tree view on the left side. One of the categories is Storage. Within that category is another category called Disk Management. Click on Disk Management. This will bring up a list of your disks and optical drives in the right side window. In the top portion of the right side window right click on a drive you want to change the letter of and choose Change Drive Letter and Path.

I believe you will first have to change your D and E drives something like W and X first. Then change your other SATA drive (F) to D. Then you should be able to change your DVD drives to E and F.
 
i'll try it .... thanks..

i actually installed windows with the two SATA Drives formated and connected, i was surprised when it sent the second one all the way down to F....
