Doom3 and DirectX

so I picked D3 at best buy today, and i was just wondering... why does doom3 require and come with DirectX9.0b if it is an openGL game? just struck me as kinda odd..
 
OpenGL is OpenGL, Directx is not just Direct3d, it also contains software needed for sound, input and other devices
