My setup,
2400+
768Mb pc2100
9700pro @ 340/650
KT266A mobo
Im happy that my system is Doom3 ready but the only concern i have is the effect of only having a AGPx4 compatible motherboard. I seem to remember Carmack saying that D3 will be one of the first games to utilise AGPx8 because of certain instructions within the engine that were designed to use the system memory as cache, calling upon the need for a fast AGP bus speed. Is this the case only for high/ultra settings at high resolution and IQ settings or will it affect performance across the board?
I've only seen benches of systems supporting AGPx8 and PCIe so far and it doesn't look like the extra bandwidth offered by PCIe has much of an effect. Extrapolating backwards i'm hoping this means AGPx4 is enough!
Has anyone out there with otherwise fast systems noticed a drop in fps, below what they would usually expect, resulting from having an AGPx4 motherboard?
