Don't forget the EVGA step up program

I was sitting at my desk frustrated that I was unable to play with my new sli mother board due to a lack of pci-E cards on the market. Then I rememberd the step up program that I had taken advantage of this past summer.

I called Evga and while your only allowed one per life, My company has not purchased a card from them, just me.

I ordered two 6600Gt's using my company CC and bang, I can play around with the new platform until the more powerful cards become available and get 100% of my current investment toward them once available. I know its not a solution for everyone but I just want to remind you all of how cool this company is and of the opportunity they provide

I believe there is fairly short time period when the offer is valid (ie. like 3months from date of purchase or something)

Indeed, the EVGA rep informed me that there would be considerable supply within 15 days and even if you double that , to 30 I am good to go. If i recall the similar Ultra shortage, I purchased a Gt and 30 days later I was installing my shiny new Ultra

I think it will be facinating comparing the dual 6600gt's to my single Ultra in performance. I can get my feet wet with the new platform (been Intel all my life) and then take it up a knotch with dual whatever down the road a bit.

Wha..? With this "Step-Up Program" you can buy an eVGA graphics card and upgrade to a higher model for free??????????????????????????????????

I'm a little confused, evan after reading their info about this program at their site.. could some one go into a little more detail about what actually this is about?

It's a program designed to help you not get "screwed" when you buy a card from them and a better one releases within 90 days.

They allow you to merely send back your current eVGA card you bought and pay the difference to upgrade to X card.

i.e. Say you buy a $399 6800 GT and omg wow Ultra just released, you use the step-up program to buy the $499 card (paying the $100 difference) as well as sending back your eVGA 6800 GT, and they'll send you an eVGA 6800 Ultra.

I believe that's how it works.

Exactly and that is what I did this past summer /fall

I will do the same here since i purchased these through my business. i will register each seperately and step up as soon as the Ultras are available or maybe sit tight for 60 days and see what else if anything is released assumiong the 6600gt sli setup performs nearly or better than my single Ultra i will have the patience to wait and if not its dual 6800gt or Ultras depending on wether my children need to eat that week

Oh and its real cool in that you get auto notified. You sign up by registering your card and submiitting you request.and you get an email as soon as a replacement is avaialble.

The down side is that there is no cross shipping so your with out a card for about a week assuming you selcect overnight shipping.

stepped up from a 6800nu to an Ultra -- whole process was smooth/uneventful
