I am returning my 9800XT to CompUSA with my replacement plan I purchased back when I bought my card so essentially, I can get a PNY Verto 6800GT for FREE.

However....

Is this card really that good compared to the other 6800GTs on the market? The BFG seems to be sold out everywhere, not that it matters since CompUSA doesn't carry it anyways. I guess I would be willing to buy a BFG card if the performance difference is that noticable. OR, is this difference that big of a deal since these 6800GTs seem to OC pretty well anyways?

Would I see a big difference between the PNY 6800GT and the BFG 6800GT OC?

Is the PNY card a very good card??

According to just about all the benches I've seen the BFG edges the others out, but that lead is small enough to only really exist statistically.
 
Gainward's Golden Sample cards are guaranteed to reach Ultra speeds. You won't find that with any other GT.
 
Pardon me ? My BFG TECH 6800GT OC is idling at 428/1110 24/7 (stock Ultra is 400/1000) since launch with absolutely ZERO problems or hic ups. eVGA and BFG are the best IMO...

BFG is the ONLY (yes ONLY) company offering a Lifetime Warranty on the card. PNY comes close with a Product Lifetime Warranty (basically once they deam that product dead.. no more warranty).

I would go for a BFG for sure, coming from a satified customer.
 
I like the LeadTek, but the BFG 6800GT OC was cheapest when I got it ($299 preorder at best buy).
 
I think they're just about all using the reference board with no changes, so you may as well go with the PNY. I mean, lets say it's max overclock is 20/40 slower than the bfg. So, you get a 400/1100 (for example) for $0 versus a 420/1140 for $400+tax. I don't really see any reason to spend that extra $400, if one is free.
 
From what I have seen, It seems that the PNY cards are the best OCr's. Mine can hit 420/1200 easily but I leave it at 415/1100. Once I get an NV5 I will truly see what this card is capable of.

But yeah, BFG for warrenty if that is what matters... be sure to get a better cooler though. Those dual fans suck...
 
i personally hate PNY... i have a 5700 ultra that wasn't fun that was from PNY.

other than that, i'd say BFG is the best.

yes the pny card is as good as the others on the market, you see all 6800gt's are based on a reference design, therefor if all where clocked at 350/1000 they would all scor e the same amount of fps on every game, BUT the BFG has a slight advantage, it has a speed of 370/1000 instead of 350/1000 this would amount to maybe 1 to 5 fps more depending on game. now all GT's can pretty much overclock to ultra speeds (i said pretty much all, not all, it might not) but then again, a pny GT could overclock to 400/1100 and a BFG could maybe clock to 375/1050, theres always this chance.
if you could get the pny card for free, then my advice would be to take it, its not worth spending out the cash on the BFG model (you wouldnt really see a difference),

edit, ohh yeah there is a difference between some GT's, there are some so called 6800gt's out there with 128mb ddr ram clocked at 700mhz, these arent really GT's these are non ultras with 16 pipelines enabled, these are no where near as good as proper 6800GT's.
 
most of the ppl with PNY gt's either get crappy clocks or amazing clocks. i personally can get clocks up to and beyond 440/1190 if i was daring and didnt care if i fried the card.
some ppl with PNY's only get to 375/1100 lol

its the same with all GT's, in fact its the same with all graphics cards, some get high overclocks some get low overclocks, and some get no overclocks (i pitty these people) :)
 
look, if you can get it for free, and the difference between the PNY and others is marginal (which it is) but you have to PAY to get something else, it seems like a no-brainer to me. just take your Verto and be happy knowing you got a free upgrade to current-gen hardware.

For clarity, the "free" is through the CompUSA product replacement plan. I am basically trading in my 9800XT (which was $499 when I bought it) for a new card...hence the "free" part of my statement. Unfortunately, CompUSA doesn't carry the BFG line of 6800GTs. They do carry the X800XT PE but I have yet to see one in stock....their website has said "out of stock" since as long as I can remember.

I've read good things about both the PNY and BFG -- so you'd prolly be ok with either card. Just don't get the ASUS 6800 GT -- it's only 128 MB.
 
The PNY 6800GT is a great card, go for it. You would see little to no difference between it and a BFG.

My PNY runs fine. I have an NV5 on the way. So Thursday night we'll see what she can do.

If you've got $499.99 plus tax to spend, get the 6800Ultra. Instead of the 6800GT. You basically have the price that you paid originally for the card to apply to a new one. Watch out though. The techs at the store may in fact test your old card.

BTW you have to order a X800XT in order for one to get in stock. Right now only people that order them are getting them.

I know I work where all the Comp USA web orders are fullfilled.
 
I like my BFG 6800GT...real life time warranty, mmmm yum yum, especially after I burnt out my last video card playing Far Cry! :eek:
 
BFG OC with a Life Time Warranty, hard to beat that deal. I've got a BFG 5900XT OC that I'm very happy with. Let's put it this way, it's hard to go wrong with a BFG card right now.
 
I think I am gonna go get the bfg 6800GT OC at best buy. No interest payments is nice plus its about the same price at it is anywhere else (400 bucks)
 
they are all the same cards except with a different sticker on the fan cover.

rip the stock heatsink off of there and slap a danger den waterblock on. then clock that bitch at 450/1200 after putting the voltage at 1.4. :eek:
 
I wouldn't pay anything extra in your situation. I have (now) both a Gainward 6800 GS 2100 and a GT GS 2400. The 2400 is smoking but I wouldn't pay for one if i didn't have to, even if it didn't clock to Ultra speeds like mine(420/1150).
 
I got the Leadtek. I has the best heatsink of them all and is quieter too.
