My brother just ordered this, and I dont know if it comes w/ thermal paste or not? Thanks

errrr...yeah. Does what? I'm assuming the 2.4 C in your sig? Intel processors usually come with a thermal compound or its actually a thin circular pad of tic or something. If you bought OEM then obviously the answer is no.

All processors come with thermal pad which doesn't even help at all. I would suggest to get Artic SIlver 5 and put very thin layer of it. It will improve your temperature greatly. :)

I throw away the stock HSF -- they're pathetic.

Pathetic for what? If someone is just running stock speeds or just mildly overclocking, the stock HSF is fine.

on a high power chip, such as a 3.4E, the stock hsf is not sufficient even at stock clocks...

On a el-cheapo p4, the stock hsf is sufficient, but a better hsf will keep you cooler and quieter.

I have seen SEVERAL system with stability issues due to the amazingly craptastic stock hsf and thermal pad combination... Usually removing the pad and using paste in it's place is sufficient, but I recommend a new cooler.

Even if you want to use the stock cooler, please scrape of the pad and use some GOOD paste.

Who the hell is cryptic that everyone keeps refering me to? I'm new here...who are you talking about?

Stock heatsinks suck? Huh? Wha?

I'm using Xeon Intel Wind Tunnels (stock cooling) on my 1.6GHz LV Xeons and they're overclocked 900MHz each. Oh, and they're using the included thermal paste.

Stock hsfs are just fine for the most part.

With good case airflow and ambient room temperatures, stock heatsinks work. All the time.
