Does the thermal paste Change over time?

I've had numerous computer and have constantly upgraded the heatsinks/fans. I was just wondering if the thermal paste ever goes "old" or if anything changes in the computer.

On a fresh hardware install, the temps were always low 30's with high 40's for loads. But like 6 months to a year later, temps are now in the mid 40's for idle and low 50's for load.

Does this happen to anyone else? I've tried cleaning the heatsink's fan...not that it was that dirty in the first place. the only thing left is to physically remove the heatsink.

The only other thing I can think of, is that somehow the heatsink got reseated when I moved the case. (8 times total).

Any opinions are appreciated.

if its junky paste itll dry up and become flaky, if its good stuff like AS3 then it should be good to go for a long time
