Does IBM Utilize Proprietary PSU's?

I've got an old IBM Intellistation M Pro 6889-19U (Dual P2-400, 440BX) system whose PSU has decided to kick the bucket.

To me, it looks like a normal ATX PSU as all the pins are there and it's the same size as a normal ATX PSU.

AcBel makes it and here's what the PSU says:
-> AIC-7506
-> IBM P/N: 01K9865
-> FRU P/N: 01K9866

Now, IBM wants an arm & a leg for a new PSU for this thing, which I'm not prepared to spend just quite yet.

Is it safe to just utilize an off the shelf ATX PSU in the system, or does IBM utilize a proprietary PSU & ATX power connector setup so that if I plug in a non-IBM PSU, the motherboard & components roast?

Thanks in advance.

Take a pic, or find me a link - I have an old Tiger PSU you can have for shipping if its the same. Came from a ACER or Compaq - has some funny mobo plugs, two actually.

Wow, I did a search - repo 01K9865 for $80+ and up, and OEM IBM 01K9865 for $220!!

ouch.

I'll take a pic & post it here in a minute :)

I compared the ATX connector wire layout on the AcBel PSU to a spare SmartPower 380W I have kicking around.

There are a couple differences, but they are mostly the same.

Pics to follow really shortly :)

The wire differences between this AcBel PSU & the SmartPower 380W I have are:

Other than that, all wire colors correspond to the standard ATX layout image above.

Think it will work?

I replaced the 145W ACBel PSU in my Aptiva with a 200W unit from Fry's. No problem.

The Tiger PSU I have is way diff then what you pictured - your right, it looks exactly like a standard ATX - but all the wording after doing a Google says "Proprietary PSU" for IBM . . . confusing.

Well - wish I could have helped - G'luck.

Well, after removing the old PSU and using a hammer to smash down the IBM PSU retension brackets, I managed to get the SmartPower 380W in there.

Booted up like a charm. :)

Thanks for all the help. The cluster is happy once again :)
