Does external SATA trigger WinXP activation?

I needed some more SATA ports so I got a SATA card and hooked a SATA drive to it internally. I wanted to try something, so I disconnected that drive and hooked up another of my drives to the card. Then I was faced with a Windows activation. Let me say that neither of these drives I moved around was the system drive.

If I get a SATA external enclosure and plug it into an external SATA port (not eSATA), will this trigger activation everytime I use it?
 
It might the first time, but not everytime. It would already know you have it after the first time. I have never had an external drive (usb or sata) make my activation kick in either (and yes I have legit winxp).
