Ok, the specs of my rig are in my sig lol.

Anyway, I have had my cpu to 3.5 Ghz stable at one point a few months ago and the only thing I have changed is I upgraded to 4 gb of ram. I am unable to overclock at all now. I can't even up the FSB by 2 or 3. It will restart and go to check memory and just restart with defaults enabled. ARGH

I don't think it is the ram because I have been running the ram at 1000 speeds and the overclock only put it at like 800 speeds... wtf is going on. I updated to the latest version of my bios, I know my heatsink is on there good. Am I missing something obvious?

Oh and I set the PCI-E bus at 100mhz just to make sure it was locked, and still nothing.

2x2GB sticks

Something is pretty freaky with my comp, now it occasionally holds on restart and I have to press the power button. It also seems to just be slow as crap anymore, but I ran cpu-z to verify that my cpu isn't being throttled and it's at 2.4Ghz, so umm.. wtf?

Well, if the change ocurred when you changed the RAM, then that's the first place to look. Check timings and voltages on the RAM, along with speeds. You also may need to look at your MCH/NB voltages.

my gigabyte board has been pretty finicky with settings. i'm not sure how your cmos is setup but take the battery out and short the pins with a flathead. besides my ram being bad to begin with(memtest errors at 4-4-4-12, just requested rma today), it did clear up my problems with oc the cpu.

Yea, I agree, i would check the ram. I mean if your PC freezes, and you cant even hit the caplock key, thats usually processor related, if its a ram type issue, and your processor is fine then it wilL BSOD, and write something to the event log. If its not writing to the event log, its meaning the CPU was the culprite.

i could just google but where would i find the event log. you think it would go back to 2 weeks ago?

start/control panel/adminitrative tools/event log

usually anything w/ a red X is a bad shut down, or BSOD. And IM pretty sure it will go back to teh day you bought your PC.

Hmm Yeah I will try switching out the ram for my old stuff that I know did fine and I will try hard clearing the bios this time. I occasionally get a BSOD but I get freezing more often than not.
