Comp in sig, first one. Can you recommend anything?

Things I am interested in are DVD burner, Soundcard.

I havent really been keeping up with the new tech due to school+other things so if i were to upgrade my mobo+proc+ram in the near future what would i be looking at? Im thinking i can even just keep my MOBO maybe just a proc+ram upgrade.

Oh and, what are some good ways to quiet my computer down. Im not overclocking anymore. Ive got a coolermaster ATC-111 and I cant sleep with it on anymore. Any suggestions?
 
A DVD burner is always a nice thing to have. I wouldn't recommend upgrading processor unless you're looking at AMD 64 or something really $$. The board is pretty solid as well. For sticking with intel, I'd say you're set as far as that goes.
 
If you feel the need to have a DVD writer, I'd say go for it. Most of the good ones (Lite-On, Pioneer, NEC) are very cheap for DVD dual format 8x writers. However, if you don't have that much data to back up, I'd say it's not truly necessary yet. I just bought an NEC ND-2500A though, and I love it.

As for sound card, looks like your Turtle Beach Santa Cruz died. If you're serious about sound, there's the M-Audio Revolution, and there's one other sound card that also uses the CPU to process the sound, but I forgot what it was. Maybe someone can chime in?
Overall, I think the Audigy 2 would be a good card (ZS if you have a really kickass sound system, like a 7.1).

Overall, I don't think you need any major upgrading now, considering you have a 2.4C and such.

Are you feeling a performance hit in anything? That's a relevant system (almost like mine) for today in most cases. Just wait until you actually need something big, and then look into the newer Athlon 64 socket 939 chips, or see what the Intel LGA775 chips are like.

As for silencing your system, I guess you could turn the Zalman down to min power since you're not OCing anymore. I'm guessing the main noise sources are from fans and hard drives too? You could always get hard drive silencers, quieter fans, or use noise dampening material on the case.
 
yeah for real man. all your stuff is straight. the only thing i would change right now is the sound card like you say. Audigy of course, and that's of course if you really need it. No point in having a killer sound card unless you have a killer sound system to go with it. And your hard drives. Maybe get some twin raptors and raid0 them for your work and boot drive. then get a large drive for storage. that will give you an incredible performance boost. your board, ram, and 2.4C are perfectly fine for right now. if you want more juice from your processor, then overclock it. I'm sure with that ram and mobo, you could get at least 3.0 ghz. probably more out of that sucker. Oh yeah, and of course a dvd burner is always nice.
 
I agree with everyone here. Your setup is pretty good without any upgrades. I am running on somewhat of a similar setup but mine is not as high profile as yours.

I do have an Audigy 2 and a DVD burner and it does make somewhat of a difference if you are going to be taking advantage of it. I only have one optical drive so I do use the DVD burner A LOT. As for my Audigy 2, I got it used for $55 so that was a great deal, sounds really good when compared to my old sound card (Live 5.1)
 
I'd say, keep the money you were planning on buying upgrades with, and save it for the next generation of things to come out.

The reason i ask is because my birthday is comming up in a month or so. I'd kinda like to have a dvd burner for certain things, and also my intergrated sound gives me slight fuzz when the volume is up higher than normal.

You should be able to boot 250 fsb 5:4 with zalman on silent. I know a lot of ppl like idle temps of 35-38 and loads of mid 40's but get serous. Intel's thorrottle at what 80C? your cpu wont be anywhere near 60C with zalman on silent and you running 3000/1000. at least thats what I think.
 
Hah, for some reason my cpu wont boot over 230fsb and my Ram cant do over 420...
 
Got LCD? What about a good keyboard and mouse? So many people focus on their rig they forget the real I/O thats going on. :cool:
 
Werd, i was thinking about an LCD, thats always a possibility. I have an mx500 and this viewsonic keyboard thats just REALLY quiet the way i like it :D
 
Then jump on the bandwagon, the prices are low enough, and they are good to go on the gaming front if you get a decent one. A good monitor will last you several years, a good computer will get about 2.
