Do I need thermal compound?

If my TRUE is lapped, and my cpu is lapped do I still need to use thermal compound?

Yes. There are still microscopic gaps that need filled-in. You don't need to use much though.
 
Well that all depends, do you want your CPU to work in the immediate future? If so, then yes.. good God yes.

Couldn't have said it better.

Regardless of how well lapped everything is, thermal compound is still essential.
 
Use some butter or crisco instead of thermal compound. No, really - don't.

Now this is just a guess, but I doubt that not using thermal compound on a lapped cpu and heatsink would result in his cpu overheating so much that it would stop working.

Yea I know lots of guys here are anal about their temps but I think that if he were to do without, his temps would be higher than with but nowhere, nowhere near what it would take to kill the cpu.

Im running my lapped sempron 3200+ with a lapped retail s939 heatsink with like no thermal paste because i ran out and the temps are better then before it was lapped and with the proper amount of thermal paste.

EDIT: And yes you should use thermal paste, im picking some arctic silver 5 for this rig in the next couple of days.
