Do any games support Trueform?

I saw some demos of what Trueform does in games and it looked impressive. Do any games even support it? It always defaults to off in the ATI driver settings. I wonder if 3dc will fall by the wayside like Trueform seems to have.

I used TrueForm in CounterStrikeon a 9600 Pro. Models looked a lot more rounded. It was a double edge sword. Heads were much better shaped, but shoes looked like Reebok Pumps on steroids.

CS, Serious Sam 2

it doesn't have wide support, and the fact that R3xx cards and up don't hardware accelerate Truform has to mean something, heh

hopefully we will see more adoption with 3Dc, already we know FarCry patch 1.3 will have it, HL2 will use it, Serious Sam 3 will use it, and more to follow... plus it might be ratified into DX as the default method for compressing normal maps in WGF 1.0

UT2003/4 do as well. Anyone know if Tribes: V uses it? Its based off of the UT2003 engine, but I dont know if its in T:V.

Not sure about Tribes, but was going to mention the UT models look better with true form enabled. Its noticable when its on...in a good way :D

Works pretty good in UT2k4. Set tessolation power to 3 or 4 and BAM, sweetness.

How do we do that again? Can it be done in 2003? I googled how to turn it on in 2003, but its not the same as I did in 2004. I think I did it thru console in 2004, but 2003 they edited a game file. I tried to edit the same file/setting in Tribes: VE, but I didnt see it. :(

Well, is there any way an nVidia card can emulate this? Trueform has been around since the days of the R8500 right?

I dont think so, and if so, it would be slow ass hell.
Correct..

Not really. Since all cards post 8500 do it in software not hardware. And there really isn't a performance hit that I can see.

There is a huge performance hit if you're doing any decent level of truform.. not just like 1 model, since the CPU is forced to do it.

I realize the CPU does it, but I honestly haven't had any serious slow downs with it enabled in UT2k4. I have an A64 @ 2.4 ghz with a x800 XT PE..Not sure where it begins to seriously affect gameplay. Although I haven't played anytyhing else with it. UT2k4 isn't very intensive imo. I think there are other games that can stress out a system more...

What level of it are you doing?

Hmm too short of a message =)
lemy try with my 8500.. Ill run it all default detail(low prolly) and forced 16AF in CP..
with 5..

K using Umark, with default settings.. which is like normal texture detail.. some low..
with torlan, 12 bots..
I get 56 avg fps w/o turform, with truform I get 42.. with 5.
Honestly, watching benchmark, I didn't notice much diff.. ill have to do some screen caps, where is it most noticeable?

I suppose you mean where is it noticable as far as improvments? If so models with big ass shoulderpads/helms you can see the diff...

Hmm..
Just played torlan at 1024.. played around with settings, I can do very high texture detail, high char detail, high world detail, normal dynamic mesh lod and decal stayf, full shadows, but low phyiscs detail.. I figuued my 2500+ and 8500 would need low detail to play..
I really mainly care about texture detail..
The game does do alot of swapping(512 ram) so like when I hit exit it will swap stuff out for a good 10 secs.
This was with 5x truform, using instant action.. bots set to map..

what's this talk of different "levels" of Truform? I've got a rebadged 8500 and play morrowind, and have never heard of these "levels"

Morrowind is surprisingly fast even with software truform as long as you have a 9700 or higher.

http://www.morrowind.nm.ru/

Is the what everyone uses as the visual enchancement add-on for morrowind. No only does it let you set tesellation levels, it lets you set truform on/off and level for each classified object in the game. Thats the proper way to do it, instead of Truforming every object in the game regardless of whether or not its supposed to be round or not.

You can set the level of tessellation.
HIgher= more "polys" but I think if you get to high, it could start looking messed up, like all round and crap.
I tried getting into morrowind, but I never could, I'm a NWN guy :D

I do not know any games off the top of my head but this is old technology and is useless for newer games as all it does is tax the GPU. And because newer games art already high polys my suggestion is not to use TRUFORM.

Doom3 is a perfect example of a low-poly game. I too thought the days of low poly games would be over, but its obviously not true.

Take any screenshot of anyones head in Doom 3 and its immediately apparent (at least to me) including the octagonal flashlight.

Hardware accelerated TruForm in the Radeon 8500 only caused a few FPS dip, not anywhere near as drastic as some people may be thinking (its not a 50 percent dip or anything) I measured it on UT2003 back when I had the 8500, and it hovered right around 31fps instead of 33fps.
