I have alot of long, single track mp3 DJ sets. What software (hopefully free) can insert track numbers without inserting the time/silence gaps that come between normal songs/tracks? I have sets that are over 3 hours long and I'd love to just insert seamless tracks every 5 min so I can fast forward quickly.

You can write a CUE file. It's a simple text file that describes the track listing in a large MP3 file. When you burn the file as an audio CD, it will separate the tracks.

I've download lots of DJ sets, and the accompanying CUE file. When I burn the set, it splits the set into different tracks.

Here's some reading...

Thanks for the help...the wiki page is exactly what I was looking for, I just didn't know what they were called. Now I wish I had copied the tracklistings of all the sets I've downloaded

tranceaddict.com has a whole subforum dedicated to house and trance tracklistings, and if you run a Google search, you can find even more.

The Essential Mix tracklistings are all archived on http://bbc.co.uk/radio1

I wish cue sheets worked on data CDs, because that's what i play in my car. maybe someday an in-dash MP3 head unit will track search MP3s, but I'm now looking at that double-DIN Alpine head unit with the iPod interface.
