I have an old 1.4 socket A thunderbird. I have never watercooled but i have read a lot and am suffering from information overload.

I want to make my own waterblock. I have tools and no meager skills. I may have access to cheap or free copper.

but before all that. design.

which parts need cooling? I know the area in yellow needs it but what about tbhe parts marked in green? If they need cooling, how do upi manage to get the wateblock to mate with those bits?

Only the core (marked in yellow) needs/can be cooled- the little fiddly bits would get crushed, that's what the four rubber bumpers are there to protect.

Acutally they're there to keep the HS as level as possible to prevent cracking the die. OP you'll want to make sure the waterblock's mating surface is entirely flat and smooth, and is large enough to cover those four pads.
