I'm sick and tired of my Promise RAID controller, the MBFastTrak133 Lite . I want to ditch this piece of pooh and use Linux's software raid.

I'm currently running RAID1.

Would I be able to remove one of the drives completely from the system, disconnect the other from the RAID controller and connect it to IDE and still have a functional system?
 
Yup you should be able to easily break the mirror
easy to test, might have to change the boot order
