A friend asked me to take a look at her system. It was built by a co-worker, here are the specs:
Intel Celeron 2.0 G
MSI 6585 - 648 Max
Geforce3 ti200
512MB RAM 120G WD HDD
It was running fine until she had some work done on her house. An Electrician shut the power down and after he brought the power back up and the system would not boot but gave her beeps. The code was 1 long, 8 short. I check the AMI Bios Beep codes and it was Display/Retrace test failed. I swapped out the ti200 for several vid cards that I know work and get the same error.
Could it be that the AGP slot is damaged? If so, could I get away with using a PCI vid card? She is not a gamer so that would not be a problem. Thanks.
