Shit, I just started having problems with my ViewSonic VP-201s.

Everything has taken on a green (aqua) hue. I double checked my connection between my video card and the monitor, looks ok. I also checked power - it looks ok. I don't have any extra dvi - cables lying around to test out a new one.

My system is

Windows XP SP2 - completely updated.
AVG 7.5
A64 2800+ (s754)
Asus K8V-X (K8T800)
XFX 6800GT
1gb samsung ram (ddr-400)
x-fi xtreme music.
1 120gb seagate barracuda.
1 320 gb seagate barracuda.
1 samsung dvd writer.
Antec Truepower 380Watt

I've had this build now for two years. The only thing new is the x-fi card. I installed it this weekend.

I'm guessing I'll have to either borrow someone's system to see if it is in fact the display and not the video card that is the problem....

Its strange...I can see some pixels flickering...in a green colour.

I'm almost positive its the display...anyone have any advice?

edit- sorry its a vp-201s not b...but that just denotes the bezel colour...so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Well, went to bed last night thinking that my monitor had kicked the bucket.

Woke up this morning and turned on my computer. Now evertything is fine. What tha hell? Can't really complain anymore...but this leaves me scratching my head.

Well, I spoke too soon. The display is now back to its hijinks. I'll have to bring it to a friends to see for sure if its the display and not the display adaptor. Waaa Waaah! :p

Well, tonight I brought home a laptop from work because I'll be on the road for the next two weeks. Then I had an idea...maybe if I hook-up the laptop to the monitor through its vga output I can see if its in fact a problem with my monitor.

So, I hooked it up...and yes, it is the monitor. I still see the same green hue on the display's pixels.

Now the thing to do, I guess, is contact viewsonic support....sniff!

Anyone here have experience with viewsonic support?

lol, I keep responding to my own thread. Mods, if this is against the rules - please let me know. I just wanted to document this whole process somewhere.

Well, today I called viewsonic customer support. I got a rep on the line instantly, she asked what the problem was and I described it. She then asked me to hold, and I was on hold for no more than 5 minutes.

When she got back on the line she asked for the monitor's serial number, my name and address. Next, she gave me an address, that I am to ship the monitor to, along with an RMA number. It was that painless. I was half expecting that I would have to fax a receipt or provide a copy of the receipt. However, I guess I registered the monitor's serial number a couple years back...because the whole process went very smoothly, with no questions asked.

As far as I know, the monitor is covered under a 3yr manufacturer warranty. The shipping address that the rep gave me was a local one. Using google, I found out that the address belonged to a courier company. I called the courier company and asked if I could just drop off the monitor at their location, rather than ship it. They said no problem. Just what I wanted to hear. They even said that all I have to do is bring the monitor, and its cables, fill out some paperwork and they will ship it to a repair centre in montreal (I'm in ottawa).

I'm guessing the problem I described to the rep is fairly common (that is, I'm not saying that problems with viewsonic monitors are common, only that, of the problems that occur, this one is common), because she never asked any follow-up questions, she just processed an RMA. If the monitor can be repaired, it will be shipped back to me. If not, they will be sending me a new one.

I have to say that I'm pretty satisfied, so far, by the service that I'm getting from Viewsonic.
