Hi,

I bought a Iiyama E2208HDD 1920x1080 monitor and connected it via a DVI cable to an ATI 9600 Pro video adapter.

I installed it on my computer running Windows 2000 and it runs correctly @1920x1080.

Then I installed it on the same computer running Windows 98 SE and it ran correctly @1920x1080.

Then I connected a second computer to the monitor via the VGA connection.

After this the monitor still runs correctly while running Windows 2000 but after booting Windows 98 SE the picture on the monitor is compressed and the monitor displays black bands above and below the picture.

When changing the resolution to 1600x1200 the picture is slightly distorted but fills the screen. At 1920x1080 it displays black bands.

I have removed the connection to the second computer from the monitor.

I have reset the monitor to factory settings.

I have tried many things including Powerstrip but to no avail.

I restored an old Ghost image of the Win98SE installation and installed the monitor fresh but it again displayed black bands below and above the picture when working @1920x1080 but fills the screen when switching the resolution to 1600x1200.

Who knows what is going on and what I could do to get a full-screen picture @1920x1080?

Regards,

Fred.

Sounds stupid, but I'd try resetting the bios on the win98se machine. (write down your settings first)

I've seen really really strange things be fixed by that on hardware of that era that even a full format and reinstall wouldn't. (such as IE able to access the web but not Opera or Netscape)

so before you connect a second pc via vga there was no black bands but now you still see black bands even after removing the second pc?
this now happens with win2000 also or win98se only?

Thanks for your reply.

The Windows 2000 machine is the same machine as the Win98SE machine that shows black bands above and below the picture on the monitor so I fear resetting the BIOS isn't the solution. The same machine is also running Linux @1920x1080 without problems. Moreover the machine worked fine running Win98SE @1920x1080 when I first installed the monitor.

Fred.

Before I connected a second PC to the VGA connector of the monitor both Win2000 and Win98SE ran without any problem @1920x1080.

I removed the second PC from the VGA connector but it made no difference; the black bands are still there @1920x1080.

When I switch to 1600x1200 the picture is full screen but the dimensions are slightly distorted due to the difference in ratio.

Fred.

This is a known issue in Windows 98 and there is no solution.
