Ok first off, I have posted this @ dslreports and really havent recieved that much help. I have searched here, there and on google for info and nothing really seems to be exactly like my situation and I am at a loss not only for my data but for help.
Here is the situation.
I have two computers. this is how I will refer to them.
Main computer
-seatgate cudda 160gb sata (2 partitions, xp and backups)
-wd 80gb ide (2 partitions, xp and backups, primarly for flight sim only.)
second computer
-wd 40gb ide. (2 partitions, xp and backups)
Ok, main computer was left on overnight and when I turned monitor on, it had rebooted and was stuck on the message "disk read error, ctrl alt dlt to reboot". of course this does nothing.
Second computer runs fine.
I really have no problems reformatting, as I do it often cause I keep fairly regular backups (on partition). So I popped in the windows disk and rebooted. No dice, doesnt work, no gooda. Neither drive is recognized in setup. Not there. Try to boot again. bios pass, then it stops, i do not get to the point where it asks me where to boot from.
Ok, so I figure my main sata drive is busted. I take it out, and boot again with the wd 80gb drive. Same thing, same error.
I take the working drive, the wd 40 and put it in the main computer and it worked once if i remember, the rest of the times i would see a glimpse of a BSOD and then it would reboot automatically.
Neither of the "failed" disks work in the "second computer"
any ideas? any pointers? anything is appreciated!
