this review at extremetech uses an fx-55 with two ultras and their 3dmark05 performance is way behind 3dmark05 numbers ive seen users on here with both individual 6800's and x800's. indeed my x800 gets 6200+ 3d marks. does this proove that 3dmark05 is not a good indicator of performance, or that sli sucks at the moment, or that overclocking your single cards brings substantial gains?

hm.

Clearly anyone prepared to invest $800-$1200 in 3D cards doesn't want to leave any performance on the table. So to that end, we tested only at a resolution of 1600x1200 with both 4X AA and 8X AF enabled, which is what we affectionately refer to as the "can o' whup'ass" settings.

There is something seriously wrong with their 3dmark scores, it shows a score of 2605 for a single 6800ultra. I get 5591 with my single 6800ultra. SLI 6800ultras generally score over 9000 in 3dmark05, which is a huge improvement over your 6200 score.

Edit - LOL, as coz pointed out, the low scores are because of the high res and settings they used, which are not the standard settings that everyone uses.

ah if they were setting 3dmark05 outside of the default testing specs then they should make it more clear on the graphs to avoid confusion - well spotted!

are you sure you guys are getting confused with 3dmarks03 scores?

No, we are are talking 3dmark05 scores, my 6800u gets like 14000 in 3dmark03.

At normal resolutions I recall the an SLI Ultra setup getting like 8,000+. Who cares though 3dmark scores are synthetic and do not translate well into real gameplay.

I wouldn't make complete deciding factors about SLI on current benchmarks, because the drivers are cleary young, and do not have complete driver support for SLI modes on every game. From the looks of it, a lot of these scores in benchmarks will definately increase as SLI matures.
