In the light of this thread , i decided on disabling my page file and performing the kernel registry change that krizzle kindly suggested. Anyhow, I am amazed with the speed of my system. I always wanted to replace my old school 40 gig Seagate hard drive because office, firefox would take a while to load. But now, it is like, double click, and BOOM - I’m in..

just wanted to share my experience...

Take care and good night to all,

anybody reading this, keep in mind some applications absolutely require you have a pagefile
and will not run without one, especially true for graphics aps
I have 4GB of ram and still run a pagefile ;)

a better solution under those circumstances it what krizzle originally did in the linked thread which is run multiple pagefiles effectively an OS RAID0 of the virtual memory without the need to convert to dynamic disks
(carefully review the cautions regarding dedicated access to the drives, and the need to be on seperate channels)

before disabling the pagefile audit your aps and review > Virtual memory in XP

I just did this for the fun of it, ran 3DMark2001 and gained about 150 points.

Okay, actually I disabled the page file, ran 3DMark, then did the registry tweak, and ran it again. Gained about 150 the first time, went back to normal the second, so who knows.

The DisablePagingExecutive setting is absolutely worhtless...

The ONLY thing this setting does is prevent a small amount of kernel code (few MB) from being paged out. However, this code is rarely, if ever paged out to begin with. The absolute only time it would ever be paged out is during times of a extreme memory pressure. For example, running Windows XP with 96 or 128MB of RAM. Otherwise it will NEVER be paged out. Thus setting it is absolutely pointless and it provides no benefits.

And you get NO performance increase by disabling your page file. Paging is a normal part of the operating system's function, not all paging happens in the page file...... 150 points in 3DMark is well within that programs margin of error. This shows NO proof of performance increase at all.

Well, the reason I felt it was worth mentioning is because it was the highest score I'd gotten in the last 20 times I ran the benchmark, with no other changes.

I did this once to my previous system build and I could not boot the system afterwards. So BEWARE this could be dangerous. Backup you data before trying this. Better to be safe then sorry.

sysjack, it wasn't worth mentioning though because it was non-repeatable, based on your own words it did the higher benchmark once, then never again.
