Don't know if this has been brought up before, since I'm new, but I can't be arsed to look it up :D . Anyone have any issues with upgrading to 9.0C. Faster performance? Slower? No difference?

i have seen no increase in performance, no loss in reliability. just more features i guess. very quiet and solid upgrade imo

Well, no issues everything is cool...and with my 6800, sm3.0 is oh so beutiful :D

I've had no problems so far, and Far Cry runs great and looks beautiful with SM3.0.

by "looks beautiful with sm3.0" you mean "looks exactly the same as sm2.0" right?

Tou must be THE only person that can distinguish PS2.0, from PS3.0.......what you doing playing video games with eyes that can see the difference between sweet fa, you should be donating your eye sight to a higher cause...;)

PR Wheaties Taste so much nicer With SmoothMarketing3 as a topping
And they make Young Doomers everywhere Grow so much faster :p

To thread topic. I found DX9c to be no diffrent thus far?As always though its always good to update as newer games will no doubt require it?

Yet. I always wait for the other shoe to drop w/ MS.

Now as for the beauty difference between SM2 vs SM3 don't know, I bought an SM3 enabled card.

Why? Who wants the boat machine gun to glow out of synch? The one time I saw the X800Pro, it did that :p

Truth is, their both decent cards. I just bought the one with the adequate cooling solution is all.

I didn't even realise I was running DX9.0c until a few weeks (didn't realise it was included in SP2 beta) so I guess there's no noticable change. It's just supposed to add PS3.0 support or something.

Yeah...and I notice both of you assclowns have expensive cards that won't do sm3.0...what a coincidence that you both think the difference is worthless...it's almost as amazing as my "special" eyes

It's impossible to tell the difference between sm3.0 shaders and sm2.0 shaders. They use the exact same code, one version supports more instructions (imo 65,535 instructions for a shader is rediculous anyway, doom 3's entire engine is 500,000 instructions, for comparison) You'll never come close to that limit, but people think higher number = better. If we ever did close in on that limit, it would run so pitifully it wouldn't be acceptable (hell i think closing in on 10k would make it run like shit). Sm3.0 has dynamic brancing, geometry instancing (sm2.0_b can do this even, so can r3xx cards) and let's not even talk about displacement mapping, as it can be done as well. The fact that you think you're seeing better graphics is a placebo effect, because you automatically think it's better, therefore you say it looks better; possibly to justify your purchase. It doesn't matter anyhow, 2.0_b gives the x800's the boost they need to catch up (and surpass in most cases) the 6800's in this year's first sm3.0 title.

All I see is that SM3.0 gives my 6800GT the ability to play FarCry silky smooth at whatever setting I want to run it on.

Battle Field Vietnam runs better on my 5900nu with DX9c. Most other players that posted at fpscentral BF:VN forum also notice an improvement.

Thief3 I installed/played after I had DX9c, so I can't tell if there was an improvement in that game, but it does run perfectly stable.

I think we need to see some games really show off what SM3 can do. I'd like to see FarCry 1.3, but they can't even get 1.2 out the door yet, so fat chance on that. Let's get some HDR going, put those long, flow-controlled shaders to good use, and stretch out the extra RAM and geometry instancing (yeah, the X800 has those too) so that we can see what our cards can really do. Then we'll see about which card is better.

I'd love to see HL2 show off the 6800, but they're bought and paid for by ATI, so that's not gonna happen. (Not that Valve's the only one - I'm sure Nvidia has given Crytek plenty of money with their recent bundling campaign.)
