I want a point and shoot kind of camera with manual functions so i can do good photography... I'm leaning towards to Cannon Powershot S400 but if prices drop I want to get the S410 or S500...

Whats the difference between these cameras besides the megapixel?

Is 4MP enough? I want to print really good photo quality pictures up to probably 1024x768. I want something convinient so it has to be point and shoot... I was leaning towards the t1 until i found out there are no manual functions for it.

the sxx series doesnt have a full range of manual controls

i might go for the s410 over the s500.

I hear the sensor is noisier. The resolution isnt that much better. I doubt it would be noticeable in prints anyway, but the noise might be.

plus it will fill CF cards that much quicker

just my $.02

Four MP's is adequate, I get great results from 3MP. It is all in what your setting are at for resolution. If you use the finest setting and, use a 3:2 compression ratio, then it is equivelant to 35mm. Or close enough. I print 8x10's from my 3MP and, they come out great. Also 4MP is going to chew up CF card space at the highest settings. This is especially true if you shoot in RAW format. I get 13pics, on a 126CF, using RAW and, 91 at Fine+3:2 ratio. Just as an example. Hope this helps. Also remember that RAW takes longer to write to the CF.

Well what type of controls are you wanting? And what's your budget?
