Difference between mx500 and mx510

Is there a big difference between these two mice? If there isnt i might go with the 500 to save some money
 
I have both, use the MX510 on my main machine and the MX500 on my other machine. Both are great. 1 thing difference i noticed was that the MX500 the cursor sometime jitters, i think its software related. The MX510 doesnt do it at all. Also, the cover on the MX510 is nice shiny finish....my MX500 is starting to get finger marks where my left click is. I also had a MX1000 to replace my MX500, but quickly returned it for a MX510. Im very happy with it so far.
 
If you do gaming, there is a big difference. It is much slower and has negative acceleration. If you don't do gaming, then you're fine.

Try this....will fix the acceleration and the resolution....Let me know how this works for you.





TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK...I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP YOU REGISTRY. Just in case, do a backup of you registry before attempting.


Logitech MX acceleration fix:

Change the following settings in "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse":

->delete the string value "MouseSensitivity"

->set "MouseSpeed" to "0"

->set "MouseThreshold1" to "0"

->set "MouseThreshold2" to "0"



Change the following settings in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentCo ntrolSet\Services\LMouFlt2\Paramete rs\OpticalMouse11\0000"

->set "Acceleration" to "Off"

->set "MouseSpeedX" to "200"

->set "MouseSpeedY" to "200"

->set "Resolution" to "8"

Now you have 800dpi and no negative acceleration. Have fun.



If you are running the ps2 adapter like myself you would also want to edit:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentCo ntrolSet\Services\LMouFlt2\Paramete rs\PS2\0000"

->set "Acceleration" to "Off"

->set "MouseSpeedX" to "200"

->set "MouseSpeedY" to "200"

->set "ChordDelay" to "Off"

If you are using a Logitech MX mouse open up the Logitech Mouseware software and click on the motion tab. If it is hooked up ps2 then at the bottom of the page there will be a advanced features box where you can change your refresh rate up to 200hz.
 
the mx510 is a little more precise and a little heavier, along with the pretty colors.
 
I suppose that "hack" is good for the MX500 as I only have the MX510 ( I actually returned the 500 for the 510 ). So, I can't really apply that fix. I use the Logitech Mouseware so it automatically runs at 800 CPI just fine with no negative acceleration. That find would've been cool if I still had my 500. But either way I love my new Razer Diamondback. :)

It works with the MX510 also....and just like the MX500 there is a Low acceleration setting in the reg....so even though it says its off, if you look at the registry you will see its set to LOW.

ya they keep it on for some reason.....try the hack and see the difference, its much smoother overall with the hack.
 
(negative)acceleration on the regular MX(300/500/700/900) mice can't be properly addressed through registry fixes. The cause of the negative acceleration is due to the data rate being 8bit. When you move the mouse faster than a certain speed (in excess of what the 8bits is capable of sending) the mouse is basically maxed out, which takes the form of feeling like your cursor isn't moving as fast as it should be with really fast mouse movement.

This negative acceleration only occurs when you have 800DPI enabled (by using logitech's drivers), when you run default windows drivers, you're only using 400DPI, and since there's half the precision and data being sent, you never really run into that issue of hitting the data rate cap during very fast movement.

the mx510 has a 12bit data rate, so negative accel isn't an issue with 800DPI... likewise the Diamondback has a 16bit data rate (to make it capable of doing 1600DPI without any negative accel side effects)
 
Mx510 is beter for gaming.
I use MX510 (my next mouse will be MX518 definately) during last few month I've changed my pad (Icemat black 2nd ed ->Steelpad QcK) but I'm still loyal to the MX510...
 
speaking of mice, has anyone attempted to overclock their usb ports? i thought i saw a thread on this forum about it. it mentioned that if you o/c the usb port you get more precision. is this true? anyone know where to get an app that will o/c the usb port?
