i have been reading alot about this 5900nu-5950 soft mod but im wondering, what exactly does it do? what is the difference between a GFFX 5900 and GFFX 5950?

Also the 5950's all have 256MB of ram while the 5900's have 128MB so it cant be an exact mod.

can someone explain to me whats going on here.

It basically OC's higher than usual. Nothing too different if you can do it on your own. I hear it lowers your temps too but ive also heard that the temp sensor is faulty when you flash. So if you can oc manually to 5950 speeds then dont do the flash.

I don't think there are any architectural differences over the 5900U, but yes, all the NUs being flashed to 5950s aren't
"true" 5950s. You'd never notice the difference between the 128MB flashed "5950" and the 256MB 5950 unless you were playing something that actually utilized the extra 128MB of memory.

The flashing of the bios increases the voltage as well I hear hence the higher overclocks.

The 5900NU's can OC just as high, but they are throtled down at a lower core temperature than the 5950U's. So, when you flash it, it allows it to OC just as high, and also adds the coolness factor of having a $150 5950U =D

the 5950's have looser memory timings allowing for higher memory overclocks. but they're the same core
