Difference between BSOD and Frozen?

This one confuses me, or perhaps I'm reading too far into it...

2.8ghz 1.4v, running prime95 & furmark, I got a BSOD.

Set it to 2.9ghz, 1.45v, & 1.25v FSB VTT, ran prime95 & furmark, and it froze solid.

Wondering what part of my system is causing the problem? CPU? Memory? FSB speed? Voltages?

Confused!

Q8200 2.33ghz stock
MSI P45-NEO3FR motherboard
4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800
Adequate cooling (nothing goes above 62C)

Is it possible the chip just won't do those O/C's? What does 2.6 do?
 
Don't run furmark when you are testing cpu/ram stability, it is not needed anyway. It puts way too much stess on the gpu that could nullify other issues making troubleshooting a pain in the ass. Try intel burn test for 10 runs or so and see what happens.
 
The BSOD could be an application or memory failing, where the lock up is that the CPU itself just stops (so not even a BSOD can be generated) before anything else has a chance to.
 
Well, tried something else this morning...

Set it to 2.8ghz (400x7), stock voltage across the board, and it was running Prime95 for 30 minutes before I came to work this morning... Left it running...

Wierd that at 1.4v it would BSOD, but at stock, it's fine... Even though temps never passed 63C.

The FSB Voltage causes flat-out reboots, not frozen or BSOD, just shuts off and restarts.

I like the 2.8ghz number because the FSB frequency is at 400, which is a standard multiplier and doesn't really stress the rest of the system.
 
In simple terms, when overclocking:

BSOD = more voltage
Freeze = MORE voltage

^ I must've entered the twilight zone then, because I got more stability with LESS voltage for some reason! Confuses the crap outta me

However, it still freezes at 1.25v under Prime95... Seems like it freezes under Prime95 no matter what I do!
