I was comparing the 2 and the PE scores a whole 200 higher on the 3dmark, and is what 20Mhz faster? Whats the deal with this card why'd they make it if its nearly identical? What am I missing?
yeah, it's 20MHz faster on the core, and 50MHz (100MHz DDR) faster on the memory.
why did they make it? for the same reason they make Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, etc.....so you can say you've got the best/fastest that money can buy without having to overclock (mod) it.
another reason they did it is because the r480 has a wide range of cores form powerful to weak. the x850xt's have the waker cores in comparison to the pe...this just means that the xts wont oc as much as the pe, but they weill wasily hit pe speeds and go a bit further.
I find the memory easy to overclock, I find the core quite stubborn, however PE speeds are easily obtainable (at least for me). However I'm thinking about getting a new heatsink because even at stock speeds the clocks have to be lowered because it hits about 90*C!
my friends x850xt hits 580/615, whereas my x850xt pe hits 605/630 (havent oc'ed it any higher). thats the main difference. the thing is overclocking it to past x850xt pe speeds doesnt do much, apart form increase ur 3dmark05 score.
when comparing 580/615 to 605/630 the fps only go up by around 2fps in FEAR. If you consider another $40+ is worth the higher oc and slightly higher 3dmark05 score then get the pe, if not, just get the xt and oc it to pe speeds
