difference between 850 Pro and 850 XT?

on newegg...these two are listed to have the same gpu,mem frequency and same pipeline.

only difference i see is the stock heatsink/fan...but 850 pro is like 100 bucks cheaper...

which one should i get? (NON-OVERCLOCKING)

edit: ok...nvm, just realized 850 pro has 12 pipelines only.
for a NON overclocker...which is recommended? should i spend a 100 bucks extra just to get 16 pipeline when i will NEVER overclock?


edit2: plz don't let the stock heatsink/fan cooler help in making judgement...as i will be using a different cooler anyway
 
Well, yes. More pipelines = More bandwidth. This means that each CPU clock goes farther and can do more. I'd go for the XT
 
either go with an xt or get an x800xl because the x850pro sux in comparison to both of those cards
 
so the pipeline is important EVEN if i am not overclocking? dang...i was hoping i could get away with it and save 100 bucks ^^
 
you could always get a x800xl, its going to be on par for overall performance with a x850pro cause the xl is 16 pipe.
 
you would think but benchmarks show the x800xl in a clear lead over the x850pro

The X8xx's Pro Gpus should be ignored. They are good cards in their own right but right now their is no reason to go X850pro or X800pro when the X800XL beats them both in performance and power. Pixel Pipelines folks do alot.
 
Is the 100$ cheaper card a vivo if so add the extra pipes, Im coming from the x800pro vivo era, where we could and I did with my two cards, add the extra 4 pipes. Im not to hot on the new 800xl, 850pro stuff, pardon my ignorance. There was alot of info at one time covering my cards ,but I haven't seen to many threads on the new cards being hacked. So my question would be are the 12 pipe new cards hackable.

really? XL is better than x850 and x800xt??

also, for those who recommended x800xt...it seems the pci express version of it is quite expensive...more expensive than x850 infact
 
I have to agree, the x800XL is a much better deal than the x850 pro. Im not sure why they even brought that card out. Maybe if it was 100$ cheaper or it was very likely to unlock and/or overclock well it would be worth consideration. Its really not much faster than a x800pro- and it costs 100$ more in PCIE versions.
 
the performance crown for x800 cards go's like this

x850xt PE
x800xt PE
x850xt

x800xl
x850pro
x800pro
x800

the x800xl is not faster than a x800xt, they are based on the same thing, both are 16 pipe and the x800xt is 500mhz/1ghz vs. the xl at 400mhz/980mhz.

scope the PCI-E VGA Charts at tomshardware to see true comparisons.

In reality tho, i think the only real question is x850xt or x800xl. Your budget will decied that.
 
technically...I COULD squeeze out the money for the xt...but is it really neccessary?

i am not planning to do any bench marks and show off or antyhing...just wanna game. probably gonna use this card for 2-3 years before upgrading.

thing i am not sure is...spending the extra money on xt may just end up being a waste due to little performance gain...and the fact that these video cards get outdated fairly quickly...so maybe 1 or 2 years down the road and we look back and maybe the xt and xl won't be that much different.

personally i tend to agree with that, do you think people who bought geforce4 ti 4200's are off any worse than someone who sprang for the 4400. Maybe back then they were slightly, today, its doesn't matter.
 
I bought the Sapphire x850 Pro.

I'm using ATI Tool to o/c vid card to:

570 core
630 mem

The card runs at 57C under full load with the stock heatsink. I play CS:Source with max settings on a Dell 2005fp and it looks incredible, not lag or artifacts whatsoever. I guess I can go higher, but i would like to get a better heatsink before I do. Hope my experience helps you out.
 
In the Future those missing Pixel Pipelines will hurt you. For the money its more than worth it.
