Difference between 15pin D-sub & DVI-D

Can anyone tell me what the difference between the 15pin D-sub and the DVI-D connections?

Everyone says DVI-D is better but I'm not sure what makes it better. Is it worth it paying a lot more for a monitor if it has that option?

Right now I'm looking at two LCDs, one is cheaper and doesnt have the DVI, one is quite a bit more expensive but has the DVI-D option.

Also, about response time. If I play counter-strike off and on will a 25ms bother me? Or lets say I eventually get around to Doom3. Would Doom3 just be unplayable?
 
Doom3 is still playable at 25ms. There are some differences between a D-sub and DVI-D. If you are going to game then a D-sub analog LCD is fine, but if you do graphics/webdevelopment/ or lots of reading then DVI-D is better for you. DVI-D tends to display text a lot better than Ananlog D-Sub connections...
 
There a alot of good 17"LCD that are 16ms that are analog D-sub...
