i'm looking for a diamond tipped drill bit that can drill through glass, i want to buy it online. anyone know shops that sell these? i'm looking for a 1/2", or preferably a 14mm one. any help is appreciated.

Glass for a case mod? ......acrylic is much cheaper for u sir and looks the exact same. I dont know any places though.

LOL...you probably couldn't afford a 1/2 diamond bit.......I sure can't....and glass is way too brittle to use a conventional drill bit anyway.......use a piece of copper pipe and some powdered abrasive........build up a dam of candle wax around the area you wish to drill........fill the copper tube with abrasive and flood the area with water.... with a few notches in the tube to let the abrasive get between the face of the tube and the glass.......you should be able to bore a hole with no problem....just keep it flooded with water to keep the temp down.....and make sure you use a solid drill press or milling machine.....a hand drill doing this is an invitation for disaster.

ouch... that hurts..

anyway, may i ask what you need the glass for, and.. why your drilling a hole into it?

Obviously we are discussing two different types of drill...you are talking about powdered diamond .....similiar to carbide...I'm talking about actual diamond facing......for instance I needed some TPG inserts.....diamond.......has one cutting tip....$93.00 each, it is a small insert with a 3/8 inch center circle.

Also...you asked for diamond...the bit you linked to is tungsten carbide NOT diamond.

In any event...knock yourself out......as I have only been a machinist for a couple of weeks(cough.....cough) you must know better than me.......I have drilled holes in glass, titanium, carbide, and a few other nastier alloys known to man....I was just trying to tell you how to do it without hurting yourself or destroying your workpiece......you run a 50/50 probability of shattering whatever glass you are drilling with that spade bit you linked to......while they say it is for glass and tile....it is primarily for tile and perhaps glass brick. The catalogue description is usually optomistic at best...they are trying to sell you something. Take for instance the infamous EZ out.......I remove upwards of 50 broken bolts a week out of various castings....I charge $15.00 a hole as long as you haven't tried to get it out yourself, if it has the usual broken EZ out in it it's $70.00 an hour till I get it out.

Good luck to you in any event.
