dial up box pops up when on lan

in my home office, i have my laptop connected via wireless and at work, i connect through dial up with netzero. the problem is that when i'm at home surfing with firefox, i get a windows dial up connection box that randomly pops up. is there a way to disable that from happening while not messing up my netzero software? i'm pretty sure it's a windows setting, but my dial up savvy passed away a decade ago

You might want to find out what is prompting the dialup window-- some program wants to call home and that not be in your best interest. Once you figure out which app is calling the window (and deal with the reasons for such), I'm sure you'll find that it is still programmed to dial instead of using direct-connection.

Also, check the connection settings under Control Panel, Internet Options.
