When I go under device manager, it shows 2 CPU's installed, although I only have one? I try to uninstall one of them, it promts for a restart, I restart, and its still there. I am lost. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Are you running Windows XP or 2000 with a Pentium4 processor with HyperThreading? If so, I'm pretty sure it should be like that. Regardless, is your computer stable? If so, then why would you mess with it?

Yes, Its Windows XP P4 3.0Ghz with HT. I guess that explains it. THanks.

I'm also guessing you have XP Pro? I heard somewhere that XP Home won't even take advantage of the HT technology.

All XP versions offer support for HTT to the best of my knowledge

XP Home can only do single processor; however it can support HT, so it seems like 2 in Task Manager, etc

XP Pro can do dual processor and see 4 if both chips are Hyper-Threaded - correct me if I am wrong here.

I don't think your ready to handle that kind of power...you better ship that CPU to me ;) I have a nice safe none hyperthreading 2.4 ghz that won't give you these kinds of problems. ;)

Intel does have an ace up its sleeve however. One thing you may or may not be aware of on your single CPU Pentium 4 Northwood (often referred to as Pentium 4C) system at home is a little feature referred to as Hyperthreading. Hyperthreading is a modern marvel of CPU efficiency. It basically allows the CPU to run in a virtual dual mode, thus allowing Windows XP Professional (will not work under Home version), or another SMP enabled OS to recognize your computer as running an effective dual configuration.

Yes it will

XP Home works fine with HT. It won't work with dual CPUs though...
