Hopefully this is the right place to put it, but if not then I humbly request that a mod move it to the proper sub-board.

I just recently moved into a new apartment (as in, within the last two weeks). Unfortunately, my desktop is currently collecting dust because I lack a desk. I noticed by clicking through various image threads that many people on [H] have some pretty sweet home office setups, so I decided to ask for recommendations from the general [H] population.

I value and use (well, probably 'waste' is more accurate) alot of desk space. Right now I have a 23-inch monitor, but have plans to upgrade to a 30-inch sometime in the future. I will be using both when that happens, so I'll need space for 2 monitors. I'll also need space for a pair of not-small powered studio monitors (strictly for music and audio listening, M-Audio BX5a Deluxe if you need to look up dimensions), an external DAC + headamp, a work laptop, a large mouse pad, and the prerequisite keyboard and mouse.

I'm looking to spend between $200 and $300. Basically, the bigger and more cost effective the better.

Is there an Ikea store near you? If so, head up there and look at their Galant series. (The pictures on the Ikea website don't do it justice.) Several members on [H], including myself, have really liked some of their desk models and being able to customize it to the Nth degree.

It turns out there is, though its close to an hour away. I may make the trip anyway, since I've alot of good things about Ikea.

Searching through this forum for "Ikea" or "Galant" will yield lots of threads with better pictures of completed desks and customizations. That would get you thinking about ideas and considerations.

Bring a diagram of your room measurements and window/door locations with you when you head to the store.
