I'm hooking up a computer (Dell Dim. 4600) to a 42" Toshiba plasma screen here at my office. The integrated graphics card is just crap, so I'm looking for something that will work at 60Hz and support widescreen format (widescreen so I can use the plasma screen completely).

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A few questions:

1. Does the TV do HDTV?
2. Do you plan on watching movies/playing games or do you plan on reading text (or both)?
3. Do you need high quality video?
4. What is the ratio of the screen (HDTV widescreen or 16:9 widescreen)?

Dude... There's no widescreen support in Descent because there really weren't any widescreen monitors to speak of back when Descent came out. Besides who plays Descent anymore anyway?

16:9 aspect ratio.
We're just showing reports from our medical system on it. The graphics with be SVG style. I'll probably play some CS on it after hours or something, but something fancy will ever get used on it..... such a shame.... i know......

Not the game dude.

Decent as in - good quality, reliable, mid-range........

Characterized by conformity to recognized standards of propriety or morality.
Free from indelicacy; modest.
Meeting accepted standards; adequate: a decent salary.

Morally upright; respectable.
Kind or obliging: very decent of them to lend you money.
Informal. Properly or modestly dressed.

Here are a few choices:

1. Radeon 9200 SE: It can do some nice high quality 2D graphics and is good enough for 3D games via S-Video, VGA or DVI. Just remember to put the resolution to something like 1920x1080 to get the correct ratio. Here is where you can get some for less than $50.

2. GeForce FX 5200: Can't say I used it myself, but I head good things about it. A little more expensive but can be worth the money. You can find some here.

If they are too expensive then get a Geforce 3 or higher or a Radeon 7000 or higher and it should be decent enough for your large screen.

Dude... I was totally kidding around because he didn't spell decent right.

Check the plasma's specs closely, most plasma are 852x480 res... it may handle HDTV properly, dunno how that all works, but...

Yeah I know..... I was just messing around.

Thanks for all the help guys..... I was looking at the ATI 9600SE for around $100.... because it did 2048x1536 and 60 Hz and 1920x1080 and 75Hz.

I'll keep you all posted on my results!
