ok so i read the Hardocp review of the XPS 700, i had been waiting for it forever but i guess i somehow missed it when it was actually posted.

in the article, the build they bought came with the widescreen 20", and they said it was great, but everyone else (at one point here actually) said that the 20" doesnt perform as well as the 24" in many areas.

Now, i personally would actually prefer a lower costing and small 20" widescreen, since at the very least the native resolution (which is plenty high enough) wouldnt make for as big a performance hit. But it seems like price and size isnt the only thing that differs the 20" and 24", with response time, brightness and contrast ratio all being better on the 24".

any thoughts?

I went through the same thing a while ago, in the end I went between the two with a 22" Widescreen from Chi Mei for $300 ($100 cheaper than the 20" Dell). You don't lose much size over a 24", and you don't get the performance hit of 1920x1200 (22" screens run at 1680x1050, same as a 20")

Here is the link to what I bought (they moved the $39 instant savings to the silver verson):

I went with 22" over 20" for the same reason I went 19" over 17" a while back. Bigger size + Lower Resolution = Minor Performance hit (win!)

thank you for the alternative suggestion, but i really do just want to focus on these two models and the performance delema (if there even is one, still not sure if the differering specs mean much, as the Hardocp reviewer said the 20" monitor worked excelllent with games), and i'm not familair with, nor do i trust that brand on top of that (similar to how people often recomend Westinghouse TV's over Sony Bravias, but i'd still probably go with the bravia).
