Dell.ca has the U2410 on sale for $449 (down from $699) and I must say, I'm very tempted (been wanting a second monitor). All I Mainly do is casual web browsing, mail etc with some gaming (definitely not gaming as much as I used to). Been happy with my 2209WA for gaming; I imagine the U2410 is just the same thing but bigger?

Before NCX comes in and does his usual Dell bashing ( I still love ya baby) for gaming I don't think I'd recommend the U2410 anymore. I own one and love it , games do show well on it but for gaming I would consider a 120hz monitor that will end up being cheaper and far better performing for games.

However if you simply must have a non-TN panel then the Dell U2311H for gaming then as its contrast is far better than the U2410.

Figured I'd just stuck with the IPS panel on the Dell, as I've always heard IPS is much better than TN. Is the difference really that noticeable or is it very exaggerated?

Well its hard to convey the difference if you haven't seen as its very much "eye of the beholder" kind of a thing. Some people say it doesn't matter once the monitor is tweaked and enough time passes that you end up getting use to it. I own both the Dell U2410 and the Acer 120hz gaming monitor. For gaming I use the Acer exclusively (for the PC).

120hz gaming monitors have the advantage of smoothing out the frame to frame transition making it seem as if there isn't any blurring or "ghosting". They also feel more responsive even though the input latency between them and regular TN panels is pretty close (depending again on the panel in question).

If you can try to hit up a local electronics store (Best Buy , Fry's , Micro-center) and see if you can find a 120hz monitor on display and play around with it. Make sure its refresh rate is set correctly as store employee's don't give a damn if it is or isn't. As for the TN panel difference just find a regular 20-22 inch LCD monitor from a well know company like LG , Viewsonic and you'll see how TN panels can be (although in the electronics store is just about the worse place to demo one) it'll give you a fair idea of the difference if you can't find one closer.

No one can tell you difference , we can list off differences in specs and design but your brain and eyes render final judgement.

Thanks for the explanation. Looks like I'm going to choose between the U2311H @ $289 CDN and the U2410 @ $449 CDN. Basically it's 16:9 vs 16:10 at that point I suppose. Don't really do that much gaming anymore (as I just don't have the time) so that's not my main concern.

If you don't game much anymore go for the cheaper option IMO. I mean there is quite a price difference and its only 1 inch roughy and x180 pixels. Might as well say the cash. Plus for other purposes its still an excellent monitor , its just a slightly smaller version.

The u2311h is sometimes for $239 by the way, although I bought it at the $289 price.

There is more differences then the resolution actually (1920x1080 vs. 1920x1200) and size (23inch vs. 24inch).

The u2311h has better contrast and black levels. The u2410 has more input options and is capable of wide gamut (along with sRGB mode).

I just bought three u2410's and put them in eyefinity and I can tell you that they are godly. I tried an Asus TN 27" (ve276q) panel for about a week and decided I couldn't handle the hideous viewing angles and colors, so I ordered these Dells and am very glad I did.

Again, I'll restate that it's totally subjective and everyone feels differently on the matter, but I personally will never own another TN ever. Also, 16:10 rocks.
