Dell has big plans when it comes to energy efficiency. At Oracle OpenWorld 2007, Michael Dell outlined plans for Dell to "go green" and reduce power consumption as part of an effort to reduce IT complexity. I can't help but feel that the majority of companies jumping on the green bandwagon do so not out of true environmental concern, but because buzzwords sell.
The details of Dell's green reference architecture, which is being called a Greenprint, have yet to be released. It isn't clear yet whether this will be a hardware standard like Plus80 power supplies, or some sort of strategic business planning.

Dell did not detail the reference architecture, but said it will help corporations determine how green they are today, and help create plans to get more green in the future. "We call it your Greenprint, stay tuned to hear more about that," he said.

How about the fact that Government sometimes silently passes a bill or will be passing a bill forcing companies to go green. So it looks like the companies are doing it on their own accord.Great for marketing purposes, as Malcolm was alluding to. It happens a lot these days.
