Okay, so I bought a Dell 2005FPW like everyone else, it seems, and of course, being a Revision A00 Dec 04 model, it has backlight and dead pixel issues. Unfortunately for me, I'm past the 21 day limit, thanks to slow shipping and to an extent, my own fault.

What are my options?

The best solution for me would be a full refund. Does anyone know if or when Dell issues those? Next would be a replacement NEW monitor, which sounds like it's not going to happen. Otherwise, I assume it's off to eBay?

Any insight in this would be appreciated.

Call and complain, If it isnt to far past the 21 days they probably would give you a new one or a refund, Otherwise they are just going to tell you a refurb one and no refund.

with my case, with all the monitor trading (first 2 were faulty, 3rd was perfect) I kept making sure they'd send me new monitors.

when I first sent back the 1st defective monitor I was @ 18 days (went out on vacation and I couldnt do it before) and during the course of the exchange periods, I went over 40 days and I still got new units, so make sure you ask, its not your fault the exchange items are defective as well...

also, my CC was only charged once for the initial screen

Did you use a credit card? Maybe the one you used extends the return period. Like the American Express I used, it's supposed to extend the return period of what I buy to 90 days, and if they can't get it returned they are suppose to refund you $300 per item (upto a $1000 per year) Don't know how that exactly works though.

I got my screen last friday, some pretty bad leakage. I think I'll be keeping mine no matter what with as many replacements as needed. I already invested $50 on a $150 coupon that I used that I wouldn't be able to get back. And the AMEX card also adds1 year to the warranty, making it 4 years.

And what about refunds? If this 2405FPW is on the way, I may pursue alternatives.

Looks like I'm just going to have to grit my teeth and stay on hold until I get some solutions.

You may want to look at the main 2005FPW thread and decide if it's worth stuggling to get a replacement. If you want 0 backlight leakage it's starting to look like that simply won't happen with this screen. I also think that 0 dead pixels are an unrealistic expectation from Dell for a screen with this resolutions. If the pixel is really annoying that's one thing, but if its barely there and off to the side I don't know if it would be worth the hassle of getting the screen replaced.

It sounds like the Jan 05 units are on average about the same as the Dec 04 units, it's the Nov 04 units that apparently had the really extreme issues that started this whole mess. It seems that now almost all 2005FPWs will leave Dell looking great on startup, but there is still a chance that after a few hours of warmup some leakage will show up (though this is generally mild). It also seems that after some use and a few screen cleanings the leakage may have faded away for some.

Oh as to getting a refund, you could try arguing that there was some sort of circumstance out of your control that affected your ability to get the screen back to them on time. I think you'd have an easier time getting a new replacement than a refund at this point (I think that's a pretty hard deadline) but it's still worth a try.

They almost definitely won't refund you your money. I tried this with my 1905fp, hoping that they would let me upgrade to a 2005fpw, but to no avail.

If you make a big enough stink, though, they'll probably let you return it for another of the same model.

Well that's fine, I can eBay the replacement and go from there. I'll give Dell a call tonight, then.
