Dell Precision T7500 Lab?

I have a cheap Precision T7500 on the way along with the 2nd processor board, 2x L5640 (6 core) chips, 48GB of ram and an intel dual port NIC.

Has anyone used one of these workstations as a ESXi or Hyper-V host? Any gotchas? They appear to be a 5520 chipset.

I am going to use it to set up a completely isolated dev environment at work and it should be MUCH quieter than a C1100/DL 160G6 (no more room in the server room)

How well does that work? I've been thinking an NUC with an SSD and 16GB RAM would make a slick portable demo server. Pair that with a micro router and you have a complete setup.
 
I've not used one, myself, but looking at the tech specs on one I don't see any glaring issues with it.
 
Ive got a lab running on hyperV on a t3500 so I imagine a 7500 wouldn't be an issue either. No driver problems. Runs great.

All my parts should be here today/tomorrow so I will find out. You can really find good deals on these if you look hard enough. You can get them with the single CPU and add the 2nd CPU daughter board for ~$125-150 (plus CPU/RAM) later if you need more cores/ram. I was looking for a dual 1366 board I could put in a quiet tower and this comes out cheaper by a decent margin.
 
Where have you had success finding these? What are you looking at for an all in cost?

ECC Registered DDR3 ram is all over ebay, mine came from the FS section here.

depending on if you want dual processor and how much ram you want you would be between $400 and $800.

Got it up and running, only with 24GB at the moment, have to go grab another 24GB from the server room.

looks like OOTB support for the NIC, on board Dell SAS 6i (Raid1/0 only), VT-d, etc.

Edit: Created a Raid-1 of 2 2TB WD RE drives and ESXi recognized it. Have not tried 3TB drives yet but I doubt they will work since it is a 1068e controller.
