Hi, all.

This is probably somewhat basic stuff to a lot of you. I have a T3500 system which is just an old server. Mine has the "better" HS that has heat pipes, as compared to the basic model which is just an aluminum block with fins. Neither one comes with a fan installed on it, though one can be easily installed, and I will do so soon. The two front fans don't kick up the RPMs until the CPU temp gets close to 90 or so C. So Prime95 would almost instantly scare me with temps.

Well, I got some info from a YT vid on how to use Speedfan to set the front fans to whatever RPM I want. The "secret" was to set SF to use Dell laptop configs. Yep, my computer now sounds like a junior fan blower. But Prime95 hasn't raised my CPU temp above 61C. I can maybe set profiles in SF, not sure yet. It's just a shame that the BIOS won't let me do anything about fan speed. This is a minor victory to me, LOL!

Again, as my rig is pretty old, this stuff is probably pretty boring to most of you guys.

the factory heatsink is a good one with the heatpipes. even if prime 95 Jacks up the Temps, I think in real world use the system is adequate without speed fan.

I assume you've repasted already

Oh, I totally agree. And part of the "problem" is that my temps have been slowly increasing because I need to clean my case out. The Noctua TIM should be fine, less than a year old application, but I'm going to re-goop when I clean the case. Cable management is a nightmare as the T3500 PSU went tits-up many moons ago, and the Corsair 430W PSU I'm using is not modular.

I'm not complaining. Things could always be worse.
