So at my job I have an extremely slow Optiplex 755 (in sff), it is the 2nd smallest of the 755 line, the smaller unit is an ultra sff.
Here are the specs:
XP Pro
E4400 Dual core 2.0ghz
980mb ram
Intel Q35 chipset
onboard video

The unit is pretty damn sluggish, do you guys know if I added 4gb of ram it would speed things up?
What about adding an nvidia 8400gs (low profile, low power, pci-e 1.0) video card would help?

Lol the funny thing is, I was looking at dropping a quad 775 in the bitch, but I'm not gonna blow a ton of my money on office equipment!

It needs more RAM first. No need for more than 4GB unless you run a 64-bit OS.

Even just 2gb of RAM would help, 4 would do the trick.
Be careful of adding things that add much heat as Dell does specific cooling fans and such depending on the cpu and video setuips. If you add a cpu, make sure it is a 65w. If you add a video card, make sure it is passively cooled. Keep an eye out for a good deal on an e8400 or a q9400. I assume you are running XP, 4gb ram and disable the swap file should speed it up just great.

I love these little systems, I have a Optiplex 960 sff (core2 version) with an e8400 that is absolutely silent.

Good luck! B)

Yea the problem is the company I'm working for might upgrade these computers.
I almost found a deal for 4gb ddr2 pc2-6400 for $30, but didn't want to spend any dough.

I'll keep looking though, eventually I'll find a deal again and finally have a faster pc.
