Well at this setting the brightness turns down when I get to darker (black) colors and brighter as I get to brighter (white) colors.

Is this the purpose of this setting?

Thanks!

yes

Here's a quote from my guide

"Hardware Dynamic Contrast (HDC) on the other hand continuously adjusts the luminosity of the backlight according to the displayed image. For example, during dark scenes, the backlight automatically dims to produce deeper blacks (at the cost of de-saturated colors and floating blacks). It is however far less destructive than SDC."

PS: Since you have an IPS based panel, it's better to disable dynamic contrast to maintain average picture level (APL)

Appreciate the reply.

Thank you.
