What is a reasonably comfortable viewing distance for both of these monitors? Right now the price difference on Dell's site is around $20 and the extra inputs for the 27" are pretty appealing. How far away from the 30" have you all found to be a comfortable distance?

Hard to say, since the 27 has one of the smallest/worst DPI's of the computer monitors and the 30 has one of the largerst/best.

Abuot three feet - but the 30 inch will give you more flexability, becase of its resolution, to put it closer to you and keep a 'nice' image

Of course, if you put the 30" close to you, you will have to turn your head a lot more. Not really a big deal for application usage and the like, but kind of annoying in games.

I have a bit over an arms length distance between my eyes and my monitor and I dont have to turn my head when I view my monitor. If your viewing movies or stuff I would suggest getting back even farther unless you happen to be viewing highdef material.

People seem to really exaggerate this turning head thing on a 30" display. From a viewing distance of around 3 feet there is no need to turn your head at all. A 30" monitor is not too big for anything.

One more thought...

If you are going to be dropping 1K+, why not spend 0.3$ and make up paper mock-ups of the screen sizes and ask yourself which you like better for your situtation.

I have the Dell 2707wfp. I sit three away. It looks amazing. The dpi is not too big. It is ultra sharp and clear and you don't have to squint to read text. I agree it is priced too much atm; however, don't let anyone tell you it's not a great monitor.

I've got the Dell 30", and it is about 2.5' from my head to the screen. In other words, I've got the monitor towards the back of my desk - nothing special. Got the 30" when one of my 21" CRT's went south. Going from 2 x 1600 x 1200 to one big ass 2560 x 1600 - it is hard to imagine life without. Tis very good. My other Hitachi 814 is not even lit up, even though I can run an extended desktop. (grin)

Anyone heard when the 30" HC model will be out? Ive been kicking around which of these I want to get, though the LP3065 looks pretty good too.

Thanks
