Last night I made the decision to order the 2407. I'm very anxious to know how severe the banding will be in desktop mode. I'll be doing photo editing on this monitor and my hope is any deficiencies will be negligible and livable. I've asked a few fellow photographers about the banding and their monitors don't seem to suffer from it. I'm wondering if banding afflicts only some monitors ?

I was almost sold on the Samsung 244t, but it's way more expensive then the Dell, plus I'm not convinced it's a much better monitor, and I'm weary about purchasing a monitor through an online retailer. I've had bad experiences in the past.

My expectations for the 2407 will be low, hopefully then I won't be disappointed. After researching 24" wide screen LCD displays for the past few weeks I've concluded all of these displays will carry some weakness. LCD technology is still experiencing growing pains, and I should expect a perfect display. The dual 19" view sonic CRTs I'm using at the moment are on their last life, one of them has a weak power supply and the other doesn't focus very tight as a result of a few moves. It also has a scratch across the face.

A little banding on the 2407 doesn't seem so bad compared to what I'm viewing at the moment. When I receive the monitor I'll perform some tests with high quality screen shot showing banding or no banding.

For those of you interested in what I paid.

Your mad about that Tax?
Thats nothing!

I have to pay more than the double to get the same monitor...

Sorry for OT.

I too have been looking for a 24" and before the 244t was launched I was in love with it but didn't seem to deliver that much :\ Plus the input lag scares me alot.

I live in Canada and I would pay less tax than you do. I pay 6% goods and service tax and that's it. That would be $39.

I have a Dell 2001 in front of me now.

I was playing with gradients in Photoshop.I produced them with 16-bit and viewed them in different image programs. I definately see banding/dithering, even without gamma correction. This LCD definately doesn't display a gradient like a CRT would.

If the 2407 looks this bad, even after gamma calibration, I'm definately returning the monitor.

Do all 8-bit or under LCDs have the same problem? Has anyone tested for dithering on the 244t ? My suspicion is you're going to see some banding on these LCDs unless they're 10-bit or better models like the LaciE 321. But I'm not spending $2k on a 1600x1200 monitor, yet.

I'll be looking at a 2405 tonight, I can duplicate the same test.

I wonder if the banding simply illustrates the limitation of the 8-bit hardware, espeacially when aggressive gamma correction is in use, and Dell just doesn't want to admit it.
