Hi. I'm new. And a newb. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been searching everywhere for an answer and haven't really come up with anything.
I'm using a Dell 2405FPW widescreen monitor as both my computer monitor and as a high-definition display for a couple of my consoles. I originally had my Xbox360 hooked up through the component inputs, and I was running at 720p. Games looked great (although a little dark at the default brightness for most of the games), but I noticed that when I played DVDs through the system I got vertical bars on the right and left sides of the screen.
Eventually, I ended up getting a VGA cable for the 360. Now I run at 1300-something x 768. Games still look great, and now DVDs play correctly (4:3 content is properly displayed at 4:3 and anamorphic widescreen content goes all the way to the right and left sides of the screen with bars at the top and bottom. Yay!).
So here's the problem: I have component outputs for my Gamecube (OK...THAT isn't the problem). I figured I would hook the ol' Cube up to the monitor and take advantage of some of the progressive scan games. Unfortunately, I'm starting to realize what the problem was with my DVD playback before: 480p on the monitor seems a little screwy. It doesn't properly detect a widescreen signal, and at standard 4:3 resolution, the image looks a little wider than maybe it should?
So...any solutions to this? I'm willing to consider a component-to-whatever adapter if the adapter and any switchbox won't a) cost me a ton of money and b) won't negate the visual advantages of the HD setup. Please...help!!!
Thanks!
