Hey guys, I'm about to bite the bullet and get me a 2001FP [if any of you know howto get it for under $800 do tell me ;)] but there's one thing holding me back. I plan to hook up my ps2 and gamecube up to it...BUT...I've got component cables for both systems and I have no intention of dropping down to S-Video. I did a bit of surching and found component to vga boxs but I'm going to use DVI for the 2001FP. So I'm between the rock and hard place...is there anyway of hooking my ps2 up the Dell....does vga/dvi even make a difference in the case? Any help would be appreciated.
 
The 2001FP does include a standard D-Sub VGA connector as well as the DVI, so you should probably be OK. I happen to keep my XBox on my 2001FP, albeit on the S-Video connector. I should probably come up with a component->VGA box soon though.
 
I tested my PS2 on the regular RCA-in for the 2001FP and it's playable. It doesn't look as good as regular TV, but it's decent. I am looking to buy an S-video cable for my PS2 and try it out that way. The good thing is that I noticed no ghosting when playing GT3, although it does look a little pixalated.
 
I am using the DVI with a FireGL x1 (9700Pro)and the 2D is excellent, I am guessing it's much better than regular VGA d-sub, but I didn't even bother to test the d-sub since I know DVI produces a much cleaner signal. I would use the DVI with the PC and VGA for console games.
 
Wonderful, thank you very much. Now I just gotta wait for my 6800U to get here and I'll actually have a card that supports DVI lol.

Guess I'd better start looking into buying a good component to vga box as well. I've found one that supports progressive scan as well [though I don't think monitors do do they?].
 
I was thinking about doing the same thing as well but how could you run both your comp and the consoles off the same DVI input? Some sort of switch box?
 
you know, svideo isnt that bad on the 2001fp, heres what I went from on my GC:

component on TV -> RCA on 2001fp -> svideo on 2001fp


granted, i did take a major loss of quality between steps one and two, but the quality of the video isnt bad at all. RCA obviously sucks, and there are scan lines all over the place. with svideo - and rca for that matter - is that it doesnt adjustto the resolution of the screen, meaning when playing at 480i, the standard, you will have a smidgeon taken off on both sides, not much to complain about, since you can still see 99% of the health bar, but yeah, its up to you. I think its okay, playable for that matter.


It's an awesome screen though, and if worse comes to worse, you can get a highend TV Tuner card for your PC, I hear the All-in-wonders have component in
 
I tried RCA and SVid for my PS2 straight to my 2001. The pixelation was horrid and the ghosting was killing me. I was testing Disgaea, and didn't really try anything else. I was really pissed off.
 
rca = ok but a bit blurry
svideo = better
vga = looked really good but the brightness was bleaching stuff out.
