Just got my parts in yesterday, and I wanted to see how quiet my D5 pump is.
Set up a tank of distilled water (around 1 gallon) and ran a line to and from it. I made sure to prefill the pumps intake line.
Worked great and the pump was quiet as hell. Let it run for around 20 minutes, and I noticed that pump got much louder and there was a black piece of plastic sitting at the bottom of the tank.
When I first tried it out there were no bubbles of any sort after the first minute. Now the pump is loud, and it has a set of swirling bubbles coming out of it. The pump has never been run dry.
I drained the setup and opened the pump and noticed on the rotor assembly, that on one of the little fins there was a nice chuck of the coating peeled off and deep gouges on the pumps housing.
What happend here, the pump was never ran dry. Did I just get a defective pump or did I do something wrong.
